In the event of a breakdown, we know you want to be back on the road as soon as possible. That’s where roadside assistance comes in – it’s a helpful service guaranteed to get you going as soon as possible. Wondering what roadside assistance involves, and what it covers? Read on for some helpful information.
What’s roadside assistance?
When you call a service provider after a breakdown, they’ll first try and help solve the issue over the phone. They’ll ask questions about your vehicle to try and identify the cause of the breakdown. Sometimes this can’t be done, so they’ll send a contractor or a truck to mobilise your car or to transport it to the nearest mechanic within the service area.
What services are included?
Roadside assistance typically includes jumpstarts, replacing batteries, towing after a breakdown, changing tyres, providing emergency fuel, and recovering keys. Minor repairs to fuses, hoses or drive belts can also be performed by a roadside contractor. And what’s more, roadside assistance is available 24/7, meaning you’ll receive quality help wherever and whenever a breakdown occurs.
What does roadside assistance cover?
Roadside assistance covers the vehicle, not the driver. This means assistance will be provided regardless of who’s driving your car at the time it breaks down.
It’s important to note that if your car is under warranty, you may have roadside assistance as a built-in feature. As the particular conditions vary, it’s important to read the fine print before deciding if you want to stay with your current provider.
What doesn’t roadside assistance cover?
If your vehicle has become undrivable after an accident, it must be towed by the relevant car insurance provider and not by a contractor. Roadside assistance also doesn’t cover courtesy vehicles, but if you require a taxi or hire car, we can help organise one for you, with any transportation costs incurred by you.
How long will I need to wait for assistance?
The time you’ll need to wait will depend largely on your location and the conditions of the roads. Some providers will text you a link to a map where you can follow the location of your contractor in real-time, or the contractor will call you to advise you of their location. If you manage to get yourself going in the meantime, you can cancel a callout.
Isn’t roadside assistance part of my car insurance?
Roadside assistance is separate from car insurance. While insurance covers any damage or loss related to your car, roadside assistance simply helps you get back on the road again. Roadside assistance also isn’t considered a claim, and won’t lead to an increase in your insurance premiums.
